A great way to present your
knowledge and skills of Color Guard is in a
Portfolio. Just like any artist, designer,
or creator the best way to refer to your work is
to show your creativity through the concepts and
design of your shows in the past. This page
is made to help guide you into making an effective
portfolio that you can bring to a particular band
director to show your stuff!

Get a scrapbook or a photo album
(photo albums are best because you can easily move
things around). Start collecting pictures,
inspirations, fabric swatches, and anything
related to your show. Start by listing you
name, email and phone number. Then, list all
of the school's you have worked for and whether
you were the director or an assistant. Then,
on the next page arrange your very first show that
you designed. It may be a good idea to have
a picture of your group in uniform having fun
right before the performance along with pictures
of the performance to show that your group was
clean.

My suggestion, if you want to
send the band director your portfolio via email is
to create a design board in either Microsoft Paint
or PhotoShop. Microsoft Paint is what you
see as the example above. This is basically
a collage of everything that inspired your show.
For example, I went onto an image search and
looked for key phrases like "mobster" or
"gangster" or "scarface". Once I chose which
images to use, I copied them and pasted them into
Microsoft Paint and positioned them in the way
that made the most sense for the design board.
After you have made this design board you can
print it out on a high quality printer and put it
in your physical portfolio (see above) to show the
band director. You can also create your flag design in the colors
you chose by using Microsoft Paint as well if you
would like a tutorial on how to it, visit the Tips
and Tricks page. If you would like to see
another example, click
